Agdal in pictures
The district on the south side of the medina, named after the Agdal gardens: about 340 hectares of walled orchards and pools south of the royal palace, laid out by the Almohads in the 12th century and listed by UNESCO in 1985.
Good to know
- The gardens' largest pool, the Dar al-Hana basin, measures 208 by 181 metres and still feeds the orchards.
- The modern quarter stretches south along Avenue Mohammed VI, where the Zone Touristique de l'Agdal holds a string of large resort hotels.
- Some hotels on the Route de l'Ourika use the Agdal name but stand outside the district; the 6 km on this page is measured to the quarter itself.
- Hotels and residences have street or forecourt access, so the driver stops at the entrance.
- From the airport it is 6 km, about 10 min, among the quickest runs in Marrakech.

Our hotel says Agdal but the map shows it outside the city. Is it covered?
Not automatically. The distance and fare on this page are for the Agdal quarter itself, along Avenue Mohammed VI. A hotel out on the Route de l'Ourika is outside the district, so send its map pin before you book and the office tells you in writing whether it is covered.
How close is Agdal to the medina?
Right next to it. The district begins on the south side of the medina, where the Agdal gardens stretch south of the royal palace, and the modern quarter carries on south along Avenue Mohammed VI.
How long does it take?
